Pursuant to the December 2021 Attorney General Guideline “Promoting Diversity in Law Enforcement Recruiting and Hiring,” the Ocean Township Police Department is committed to doing all that we can to hire staff who reflect the communities that we serve. See N.J.S.A.52:17B-4.10. The 2022 Census Data indicates that Ocean Township’s population is 74.5% White, 10.6% Black, 10.3% Hispanic, and 3.8% Asian. As of December 31, 2023, the Ocean Township Police Department had 61 sworn officers: 91% were white, 6% were black and 3% Hispanic. 9% of our police officers are women.
Vacant police officer positions shall be announced but not limited to the following associations and websites: The Ocean Township Police website, The New Jersey Chiefs of Police Association, the County Chief's of Police Association, PoliceApp.com and Ocean Township police social media platforms. The Ocean Township police department will continue to participate in community-based events with the intent to recruit candidates for the position.
